OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR
Male voice on answering machine:-
“I'm not here to take your call right now
but leave me a message, and I'll get back to you”
BEEEEP....
Female talks to answering machine
“Hey...it's me
Thought I might catch you at home tonight
there was something I wanted to talk to you about
Well, you see...you know when we spoke last
I got up and left in a real hurry
Right after you had poured your heart out to me.
Well you see
It was just the intensity
the look in your eyes
the tone of your voice
The fact that it must have taken every ounce of courage
for you to tell me how you felt...
The very words I wanted to hear.
Why I froze
I'll never know
I replayed that moment in my mind
a thousand times
but when it came to the crunch
It was all too much
and so I ran
So tonight, I took a walk, in the rain
Blurred Neon lights as my guide
Through streets I've walked a hundred times
With words running through my mind
My well rehearsed lines
That I've thought time after time...
And now, here I am
standing outside your door
I've never wanted anything more
than to tell you what I want to say right now
That is...I would do anything
for just a glance
for one more chance
to talk to you
to show you
how much I care
I want to be there for you
see the truth is
I love you too...
please...pick up the phone if you are there"
(phone picks up...males voice speaks...)
“hey baby...why don't you come on upstairs out of the rain
and we can start all over again”

HA HA HA... I just realized something funny...so many of you wouldn't have ever used a message machine attached to a landline...lol
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I grew up with, those nasty tape message machines.
I had this one friend who used to leave long monologues on my machine, really long boring stuff,
techy nerdy science stuff....lol I now realize 20 years later that he was an undiagnosed person on the spectrum...which explains why he got so bullied and teased as a young boy, and had violent meltdowns/reactions to the cruelty when he was provoked by the fwits at his schools.
I also havbe to add a credit which I failed to do...but will add. I took some words from a Meshell NDegeocello song...outside your door....I would do anything
for just a glance
for one more chance
to talk to you
to show you
how much I care
It is also where I got the title of this poem from.
