UNICORN AND SEA CANARY

The Unicorn and the Sea Canary

It was by an extraordinary chance encounter that they met.

Normally separated by the frigid, impenetrable ice sheets of the North Pole, the earth had temporarily wobbled off it's axis, caused by powerful surges of radiation from solar flares...
The Past and future came together, and a doorway of sorts was created when the ice melted.

He had traversed these waters his whole life.  He knew every inch of his cool underwater world.  His domain was small, due to the nature of the ice shelves. He knew that there were whole bodies of water beyond his reach, as he had heard stories from his family. But for eons, the polar caps had remained frozen over, and those gateways had long been closed off.

But over the last few decades, climatic changes, combined with irregular solar flare activity had been occurring, and the balance of life was being effected.  As a result, ice caps were melting.

One day while hunting with a pod of his friends, he ventured further than any other of his kind had dared. Tuning into his echolocation sonar, which was his guiding force, the sound waves that normally bounced back in on him, kept going.. This could only mean one thing...there was nothing in front of him to hold him back.

He tentatively swam through the doorway.

He was in uncharted territory...a new world of previously unseen heights and depth.

Unsure of his surroundings, unable to grasp onto any familiarity, he traveled for days, alone. And he truly did feel alone, for the first time in his life. Normally surrounded by family, and the sounds of reverberating echoes, which gave him his sense of familiarity and security, he could feel nothing solid around him. It was so bizarre. Things in his mind, body and spirit surfaced that he had never encountered before. He didn't have words for them, as they were as unfamiliar as his new surroundings.

They were things like fear, uncertainty, doubt, darkness, lack of direction, the inability to forward plan...he had nothing to go on... It was as if the water around him was an endless mirror that reflected his own thoughts and feelings back to him,  amplified a thousand fold. It was an emotional and sensory overload.
He was transmitting to the expanse of his known universe, into the beyond, but nothing other than what he was sending out was coming back.

Although fairly vulnerable to predators, he did have an unusual form of defense...a very long and pointed sword like extension that protruded from his upper head. No one dared to approach him, or come near him, wary of this new creature swimming in their depths.

On he went...how long, he wasn't sure, as he lost track of time.

One day, while chasing down a large pod of squid, he got a sharp echo wave returning to him, that alerted him that something of an equal size was ahead of him. Dinner would have to wait until the threat passed. He slowed down, and rose slowly to the surface so as to get a better vantage point. And then he heard it...

The most beautiful melodic music to his ears. It was like nothing he had heard before, and yet...it was familiar to some part of his being.

And then he saw her...

She was a vision of purity and light...so white, so bright compared to his grey mottled skin.

She was swimming right towards him...completely unafraid, smiling, playful, good natured, and the most beautiful movements he had ever seen.

So graceful and fluid.

She got close enough so as that he could see her smiling face, and then circled around him. Forwards, and backwards, tilting her head, inviting him to come closer.
He was tentative...and yet there was something so familiar and re-assuring about her.

She was singing, and dancing in the water for him.The most beautiful thing he had ever seen.

He suddenly felt at ease and in the presence of something wonderful.

They both knew that despite being from the same family group, they were not the same...

And yet, they had no trouble communicating. Their thoughts and feelings mysteriously able to be transmitted to one another.

The universe stopped for an infinitesimal fraction of time, and everything that was knowable, passed between them, both of them recognizing the inherent love and light that was contained within each other.
A spark!  and a vortex of energy was created,in which sacred truths, colours never before seen, depths of emotions not felt before, interconnectedness, wisdom, knowledge, life mission, the songs and melodies were transmitted to each other. The water acting as a conduit. The colours spiraled around them, and their mission together was acknowledged.

And so began the story of the Unicorn and the Sea canary.
